Her Excellency, Mrs. Fatima Haram Acyl Address
Her Excellency, Mrs Fatima Haram Acyl, Commissioner for Trade and Industry, African Union, opened the 7th Annual General Meeting of the Organisation of African Geological Survey (OAGS) on 9 February 2015 in Cape Town, South Africa.
Mrs Acyl counted it an honour to address the members of the OAGS as she believes the role of the Geological Surveys in Africa is crucial to the African Union Agenda 2063 Vision and Priorities. The Commissioner thanked the Directors of the Geological Surveys in Africa for their hard work and acknowledged the challenges facing the Geological Surveys.
The African Union Agenda 2063 Vision and Priorities deal with the transformation of African people 50 years from now. The African Union has decided to implement key initiatives of Agenda 2063, and aspects that will deal with the role of Geological Surveys will be vital.
Mrs Acyl stated that the Commissioner would take the necessary steps, through the African Union, in addressing the AU Member States in writing to ensure that the Organisation of African Geological Surveys maintains the status and the respect that it deserves.
